Oh, goody gumdrops!
It is said that nobody votes for prez because of the veep pick. This would make me vote for McCain (up till now, I promised myself I'd write in Ronald Reagan's name as a protest). I want Romney's expertise when McCain is crafting his economic policy. And of course, I want Romney set up nicely for his own run, should McCain loose (if he wins, and gets two terms, there's is almost no chance for a Republican to take the White House again. I'm not %1,000 sure, but I'm fairly sure that no party has ever held the White House for three consecutive presidents in a row, and certainly not when the first two had full 8 year terms.
What I'll be excited to see is how McCain handles the criticism if it is Romney. Having Biden badmouthing Obama on tape is awesome for the McCain campaign. But two can play that game if Romney is the vp.
Here's how I'd play it, though...if I were Mitt being asked about why I'd be McCain's veep after I said nasty things about him, I'd frame it something like, "Senator McCain and I have had, and continue to have, some different and distinct opinions as to how to handle certain problems in this country. But I'd take Senator McCain's experienced and famously independent opinion over Senator Obama's inexperienced, party-line opinion any day. I'd like to remind everyone that no president and vice president in history have ever fully agreed on everything. And while I had differences in opinion on policy with John McCain, Senator Biden said that Senator Obama was simply inexperienced and not ready to be President. How exactly do you overcome that difference?"
